Creating a safe accessible living unit for parents is increasingly a solution for families as parents age, be it the home of the parent or the child’s home.

Aging in Place with a Caregiver: The cost of assisted care in a facility is expensive and in many cases out of reach in comparison to leveraging the home’s value to build an ADU. To a homeowner, building an attached ADU with its own bathroom and kitchen can provide housing for a caregiver whereby the caregiver is close by and on call as needed. Planning ahead before the need exists makes this an ideal plan to build now and use as a family’s ‘visitor suite’ until the time comes to need the in-home care.
